Cross Country Highlights
The Varsity XC team took 2nd at the league meet yesterday but showed growth and were 19 points closer to Mayfield since Saturday's invy. If they can match those pace increases over the next week, they have a shot at moving on from Sectionals. Nathanial McDevitt and Logan Miner became WAC all-stars after finishing 3rd and 10th. They both also had PR's. Nathanial McDevitt decreased his time by 22 seconds. Gabe Mele finished 17th and earned his first 3rd-place finish for the team this year. His times are getting faster each meet! Evan Morris had a course PR and earned the final medal for 25th place, beating Grayson Eagan by 1 second. Tyler Bombard is on the comeback trail and improved his time by 2 minutes since Saturday. Bodie Cancio also had a course PR.
The girls' varsity team came in 4th. Ailey Nelson became a WAC All-Star with her 13th-place finish. The team is going to the Harvest Invitational hosted by Amsterdam on Saturday and preparing for Sectionals next Saturday. Tell them to keep working!
The modified cross country teams finished out their seasons on Tuesday with a valiant effort. The girls were led by the gallant grit of Elizabeth VanNess and Iris Girard. Both girls turned in one of their best races of the season, with one finishing in the top 10 and Iris finishing 22nd. Wyatt Slosek led the boys in a heroic battle for the championship. He fought fearlessly and finished 3rd. Nicola Patterson ran one of his best races of the year and out-dueled a runner in the homestretch to finish 11th. Great job, modified runners. May you hear whistles in your dreams.
