Cross Country Highlights
Saturday was a beautiful sunny day. It was a great day to run. The cross country team traveled to Fort Plain to compete in the Fort Plain Invitational with 8 other schools, including teams from Lowville and Cato-Meridian. Runners in places 1-25 earned medals. Ailey Nelson was the first Galway girl across the line, finishing 13th out of 32 runners. Amelia Jordan came in 18th. Both girls improved their times from Tuesday's dual meet. Annika Muller improved her time by 2 minutes from Tuesday. The Varsity boys' team, made up of Nathanial McDevitt, Logan Miner, Grayson Eagan, Gabe Mele, Evan Morris, Brayden Sheft, Nate Mele, and Tyler Bombard, earned a trophy for 2nd place. Nathanial McDevitt was the first across the line from Galway and had a course PR. He was followed by Logan Miner and Grayson Eagan; both also had course PR's. Brayden Sheft also had a course PR.
The JV race was small but a great opportunity for Mason Bourdeau to finish second and set a course PR. Cullen St. Louis and Bodie Cancio also earned course PRs. It was Jerry's inaugural run on the course, but he did well! He gets to run it again when the team competes in the WAC League Meet on Tuesday in Fort Plain. Remind them to CRUSH THOSE HILLS (to the tune of the last lyric in the chorus of "We Will Rock You"). If possible, the anchors should stomp, stomp and clap, clap to close!
Cold was the word of the day for the boys and girls in modified Cross-country races at the Fort Plain Invitational. Boys raced at 9 a.m., and the frost was heavy on the grass, making for some slippery turns. It was the modified teams' last invitational of the year, and they did not disappoint. Wyatt Slosek led all boys and finished 1st in 10:57. He took the lead early on a big downhill and kept it through the finish. He won his race by 14 seconds. Cooper Patterson had a great day and finished 8th overall. In the girls' race, Elizabeth VanNess finished 10th, and she charged up her favorite hill in all the lands like a lioness chasing a gazelle.
