Galway CSD Community Comes Together to Remember 25th Anniversary of September 11

On Friday, September 11, the Galway Central School District community came together to commemorate the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, and to honor the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the lasting spirit of service and sacrifice that continues to inspire our communities.

The memorial ceremony brought together Galway students, staff, community members and local first responders for a time of remembrance and reflection. Representatives from the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office, Galway Fire Department, Galway EMS and New York State Police joined the district for the ceremony. We were also honored to welcome Saratoga County Sheriff Jeffrey Brown, Assemblywoman Mary Beth Walsh, and a representative from Senator Tedisco’s office.

Our students played an important role in the ceremony. Lily Bain and Colleen Thorpe shared thoughtful and moving speeches, reflecting on the significance of September 11 for a generation that was born after the attacks. Members of the Elementary Student Senate helped begin the ceremony by leading those gathered in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Andrew Miller and Nathanial McDevitt presented plaques to our honored first responder representatives as a small token of our appreciation for their service to our community. Amelia Jordan also helped set the tone for the ceremony with beautiful trumpet playing.

The district extends its sincere thanks to all of the first responders, elected officials, community members, staff and students who helped make the ceremony meaningful.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to remember. We continue to honor those we lost and those who answered the call to serve. And we continue to pass that responsibility on to the next generation.
