Girls Soccer Highlights

Friday afternoon, the girls took on Class B powerhouse Cobleskill, a team averaging five goals per game. Galway struck first, 3 minutes in, when Mae Budris connected with Brielle Cameron for the opening goal. The Golden Eagles held the lead through halftime and well into the second, keeping one of the league’s most potent offenses scoreless for 60 minutes. Senior keeper Beena McElhinney tallied 17 huge saves to keep Galway in it. Despite a tremendous defensive effort, Cobleskill broke through late, scoring twice- once off an unlucky touch and again on a beautiful cross to a header finish. The 2–1 result closed out league play, with Galway finishing an even 5–5.

  • 24 hours later, the Golden Eagles hit the road to face OESJ under the lights. It was a hard-fought battle from start to finish, with Galway showing effort on both sides of the ball. The defense anchored the performance, highlighted by an incredible last-second play- a loose ball slipped past keeper Beena McElhinney, but Eva Anderson turned on the jets to chase it down and clear it off the goal line. The big effort kept OESJ to two goals. Despite the fight, Galway couldn’t convert on their chances, falling 2–0 to close the regular season.

The Golden Eagles finish the regular season with a record of 8–7. The girls will now look to make a push in sectionals. Great regular season, and good luck in the postseason!
