Mighty Treasures Found at Spring Book Fair
Thank you to everyone who helped with the Galway PTSA Spring Book Fair and Family Fun Night! It was our second most successful Spring Fair.
Leading up to the Book Fair, the PTSA ran a parrot coloring contest, a pirate "Wanted" poster contest, a Scavenger Hunt at the Galway Public Library, Book Fair Bingo, and another Scavenger Hunt during Family Fun Night. Students who participated won Treasure Map prizes and Scholastic Dollars gift cards to spend at the Book Fair. The PTSA provided Scholastic Dollars as prizes for the district’s Science Fair and gave every PreK-8 student up to $10 to pick out a book. In total, the PTSA gave away $5,104 worth of books at the Spring Fair!
The PTSA gave our school librarian $650 worth of books at the Fair, and another $2,500 to spend online. This is in addition to the books given during the Fall Book Fair and $2,500 to spend online then, which translates into lots of books for all our Elementary students!
The PTSA was able to purchase $5,000 worth of rugs and furniture for PreK and kindergarten homerooms this year. They also purchased books for sixth grade homerooms, seventh and eighth grade English classrooms, and some specials teachers.
The Fall Coin Drive raised over $2,800 to purchase books for Elementary homerooms, and the PTSA donated another $640 to bring all the homerooms up to at least $100.
For those wondering about the lollipop-pull, at this year’s Spring Book Fair, we went through 1,671 lollipops and prizes, raising $835.50, all of which was used to purchase books for the library!
After eight years at the helm of the PTSA Book Fairs, the Spring Book Fair was the last for Galway PTSA Past President, Parent, and Volunteer Emma Obern. We thank her for her creativity, communication, coordination, contests, costumes, and all the time and effort she gave to making the Book Fairs fun and beneficial for all the students, families, libraries, and school!
