Annual 6th Grade Community Volunteer Day

Galway’s sixth grade students spent the day making a positive impact throughout the community during the annual 6th Grade Community Volunteer Day. More than 60 student volunteers, alongside their teachers and members of the Galway Flower and Garden Club, worked together on a variety of beautification projects across Galway.
Throughout the day, students weeded, edged, mulched, and planted flowers and plants at several locations, including the school, Village Park, the Galway Public Library, the Post Office, the Bible Baptist Church, and the Galway United Methodist Church. Their hard work helped prepare these spaces for the spring and summer seasons while also demonstrating the importance of community service and teamwork.
The day provided students with a valuable opportunity to step outside the classroom and give back to the community they are a part of. Students worked side by side with classmates, teachers, and community volunteers while learning about responsibility, collaboration, and civic pride.
Many students shared how much they enjoyed participating in the event. Oliver Todd said, “It was very fun and I like gardening.” Colin Delaney added, “It was really fun and I enjoyed it.” Anna Ahsmann shared, “It was really fun and it was nice to work in the community.”
The district would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Galway Flower and Garden Club and all of the community organizations and volunteers who welcomed and supported students throughout the day. Their partnership helped make the event a meaningful and successful experience for everyone involved.
The 6th Grade Community Volunteer Day continues to be a wonderful tradition that highlights Galway students’ willingness to serve others and take pride in their community.
