Welcome back, EAGLE NATION!  We hope you had an amazing break and got to spend time with family.  We also hope you are well rested as we kick off a New Year.  For 2026, positive quotes focus on intentional growth, gratitude, and consistent action, emphasizing that your mindset shapes outcomes, new beginnings offer fresh chances, and focusing on the present builds a better future. Mr. Kirvin is super excited today as he gets to see everyone back in the halls. Make sure you stop in to say Hi to him. There was a lot of action over break, so make sure to check out our scoreboard and highlights.

Old Man Winter has been relentless this winter season, as we've seen snow, ice, and cold.  Hopefully, we have a January thaw soon. Think Spring!

HIGHLIGHTS

Girls Basketball Highlights

The Varisty Girls Basketball Team traveled to Mayfield for a league match on 12/19 and fell to the Panthers 38-46.  Kiera Allen led the way for the Eagles with 17 points.  Brielle Cameron added 13 for the Eagles.  The Eagles then traveled back to Mayfield over break for the Mayfield Holiday Tournament.  The Eagles defeated Gloversville 54-31 in the Opening Round.  Kiera Allen led the way for the Eagles with 23 points, and Brielle Cameron added 20 for the Eagles.  The Eagles moved on to play in the Championship or just their second time.  The Eagles took on the Falcons from Northville.  The Eagles jumped out early, but the Falcons battled back late to cut it to two, but the Eagles stayed poised and finished strong, winning 43-36 to claim the Championship.  Kiera Allen was named MVP as she dropped in 20 points to lead the Eagles.  Nora Schaperjahn added 10 points for the Eagles as they moved to 7-2 on the season.  Brielle Cameron was named to the All-Tournament team.

  • The Galway JV Girls' basketball team lost to Mayfield on Dec. 19 by a score of 60-23.  Mara Allen had 8 points, and Katy Ferguson and Lily Thompson both had 4 points.  The JV girls then defeated Gloversville in the opening round of the Mayfield Holiday tournament by a score of 43-14.  Mara Allen had 17 points, Nadia LaBate had 12 points, and Avery Menge had 8 points.  Galway lost to Mayfield in the championship game of the Holiday tournament by a score of 46-14.  Mara Allen had 9 points, and Nadia LaBate and Lily Thompson both scored 2.  Nadia LaBate was named to the all-tournament team.  The Eagles are 4-5 on the season.
The Modified Girls played three games over break. The Eagles battled in all three games, but came up short in each game.  The Galway Eagles fell to Northville by a final score of 36–21. Keliegh Miller led the Eagles with 8 points, while Brooklynee Taylor added 7 in the loss. Galway Girls Modified Basketball fell to Fonda despite a strong second-half effort. The Eagles came up short against Fonda, 24–17. Gracie Gregory recorded her third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds.  They then took on as they fell to Cobleskill 26-11 despite outscoring them 9-4 in a strong third quarter performance. Gracie Gregory led the way with 4 points, and Quinn Clemens chipped in with 3.

Boys Basketball Highlights

The Varsity Boys Basketball team traveled to play in the Corinth Riverhawk Holiday Tournament over Break. In the first game, they lost to Taconic Hills 48 to 76. Hayden Flint had 27 points, Joshua Eaton had 8, and  Grayson Eagan had 6.  In the consolation match, Galway defeated Fort Edward despite being the considerably smaller team both in height and numbers. It was a very close game, but Galway pulled it out with a score of 49 to 45. Hayden Flint had 23 points, Grayson Eagan had 12, and five other players scored for Galway. Hayden Flint was named to the all-tournament team.  The Boys have a big week as they have home games on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday this week.  Come out to support them.
  • The JV Boys Basketball team dropped both games of the Corinth Holiday Tournament
The 7th Grade Boys Basketball went 1-1 over break as they lost a heartbreaker to Fonda 36-33 in overtime, but bounced back to defeat Cobleskill-Richmondville 28-11. Johnathan Schaperjahn had 8 points, and Jordan Manasseri had 7 points in the loss to Fonda.  Johnathan Schaperjahn had 9 points in the win over Cobleskill-Richmondville, and the entire team put on an amazing effort defensively to hold down the Bulldogs.  The Eagles move to 5-1 on the season.
  • The 8th Grade Boys Basketball team went 1-2 over break.  They opened with a win at Northville by the score of 38-24.  Vann Sowle led the way for the Eagles with 15 points and 15 rebounds.  The Eagles then fell to Fonda as Gavin Coulter put up 10 points for the Eagles.  The team closed out the break with a loss to Cobleskill-Richmondville 42-31.  Jake Page led the Eagles with 10 points, and Vann Sowle and Jack Kencsan each added 9 points for the Eagles.  The Eagles fall to 2-3 on the season.

Wrestling Highlights

The Varsity Wrestling team had a tough go of it over the Winter Break.  The Eagles traveled to the Hudson Falls Tournament on the 20th of December and finished 15th out of 15. Gabe Mele placed 5th, and Nathaniel McDevitt placed 6th in their weight class. Then they traveled to Corinth for a non-league meet.  The Eagles fell to the Riverhawks 63-17.  Jorden Grupe won by pinning his opponent, and Max Sicard defeated his opponent 18-3.  The Eagles closed out the break at the Saratoga Invitational. Kolt Wojtowecz finished 2nd, and Andrew Grupe finished 3rd overall in their weight classes.  The Eagles are back in action tomorrow as they host Stillwater-Mechanicville.
